Our Master of Arts in French program is ideally suited for students with interdisciplinary academic goals who wish to incorporate courses from various departments into a unified study plan. Rather than a conventional final examination, we support our MA candidates in pursuing innovative projects that align with our faculty's expertise, such as: translations, digital humanities collections, community-based humanities initiatives, online lexicons, or educational resource repositories. Students may alternatively choose to focus on scholarly articles with publication potential instead of a traditional thesis - an approach particularly beneficial for those considering Ph.D. applications.
We highly recommend combining the French MA with an area studies certificate. Popular options include: Translation Studies (launching Fall 2023), Textual and Digital Studies, Foreign Language Education, Film and Media Studies, Public Humanities, Gender Studies, and LGBTQ+ Studies. The first two certificates are administered by our department, offering particularly streamlined integration with the MA program.
