The Department of Sociology at the University of Washington places graduate education at the heart of its mission. Our longstanding graduate program has earned recognition for cultivating exceptional scholars and educators who have significantly advanced sociological knowledge and enhanced our comprehension of societal dynamics. The Sociology graduate curriculum at UW focuses on three key areas: Analyzing and thoughtfully assessing social theories and empirical studies. Performing theory-driven research that investigates, evaluates, and expands explanatory frameworks. Cultivating effective communication abilities, particularly in academic writing and instruction, to effectively disseminate sociological insights.
No terminal MA offered. MA only offered as part of PhD program. Minimum 3.0 gpa required for the last 2 years of study.
English Proficiency:
The minimum English test scores to be admitted to the Sociology PhD program are TOEFL Overall Score of 92, WITH a Speak score of 26.
