Our graduate program operates on a mentorship model, where students work closely with faculty members who share their academic interests. Applicants should pinpoint potential faculty mentors when applying. The department organizes its research into seven distinct focus areas, and candidates must apply to one specific area rather than the department generally. Together with their mentors and other faculty in their chosen field, students design a customized curriculum aligned with their professional aspirations. Psychology remains an ever-evolving discipline, bridging biological and social sciences through its examination of human and animal behavior. Continuous advancements reshape our theoretical frameworks, practical applications, and research methodologies. For inquisitive, innovative, and driven individuals, this represents an ideal moment to embark on advanced psychological studies.
The Behavioral Neuroscience specialization provides training in neuroanatomical, neurochemical, neurophysiological, and computational approaches to understanding brain functions and their connection to behavior and cognition. Faculty research explores diverse topics including learning mechanisms (taste aversion, fear conditioning, memory systems), motivational processes (thirst, hunger, stress responses), spatial cognition (neural representations of space), and sensory development (auditory and visual processing).
