The University of Washington's Philosophy Department offers dynamic Graduate Studies programs. Students can earn M.A. and Ph.D. degrees across diverse philosophical disciplines. The department particularly excels in Feminist Philosophy, Historical Philosophy, Philosophy of Science, and Value Theory. Faculty members actively collaborate with other campus departments, enabling graduate students to enrich their philosophical studies through interdisciplinary coursework. Current dissertation topics range from undocumented migration ethics to automated decision-making morality and the communal aspects of scientific inquiry.
The following requirements supplement the general requirements set forth by the UW Graduate School. All students, whether or not they have earned an M.A. at another institution, must complete the M.A. requirements before entering the Ph.D. program.
