They gain comprehensive knowledge of the breadth, history, methodologies, challenges, and theoretical foundations that characterize the iSchool's distinctive interdisciplinary perspective on information studies. The iSchool's Ph.D. candidates arrive with diverse professional and educational backgrounds spanning fields like information science, social sciences, computer science, library services, law, and IT.
The iSchool's Library and Information Science (LIS) research employs varied approaches, subjects, and technologies across faculty projects, yet shares a common mission: to deepen society's awareness of how information systems and services influence people's quest for knowledge, creative expression, and community involvement. Our innovative research advances LIS domains including public library services, knowledge management, archival science, data preservation, youth literature and services, digital skills education, and humanities computing. LIS faculty members are personally and collaboratively committed to exploring these areas through frameworks of fairness, diversity, and inclusion.
