Through academic coursework and practical training, Ph.D. students build a robust understanding of information science, mastering how to pinpoint key challenges and thoroughly investigate solutions. They gain comprehensive knowledge of the breadth, history, methodologies, challenges, and theoretical foundations that characterize the iSchool's distinctive interdisciplinary perspective on information studies. Our doctoral candidates arrive with diverse professional backgrounds and educational histories, including fields like information science, social sciences, computer science, library science, legal studies, and IT.
The iSchool boasts an internationally acclaimed faculty that explores, creates, develops, and implements technologies and digital interactions through lenses of human values, accessibility, education, healthcare, wellness, and quality of life. We pioneer innovative approaches including ability-focused design, collaborative design, data-informed design, patient-oriented design, and ethics-conscious design. Our research involves partnerships with children and parents, healthcare providers and patients, students and teachers, as well as survivors and global justice institutions. Through these efforts, we aim to enhance quality of life and promote fair access to information and digital resources.
