The Department of Global Health has partnered with the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation and Health Alliance International to create a pioneering PhD program in Global Health. This unique program leverages faculty expertise in metrics and implementation science, equipping students with cutting-edge methodologies to develop solutions for crucial global health decision-making. Doctoral students will benefit from studying in Seattle - a hub for global health innovation - where researchers, funders, and practitioners collaborate to enhance public health outcomes. Graduates will be exceptionally prepared for careers across academia, global institutions, government health agencies, philanthropic organizations, or corporate settings.

The metrics concentration trains scholars to transform data into actionable insights through advanced quantitative methods, impact assessment approaches, and analytical frameworks. These students focus their research on addressing three fundamental questions that illuminate population health status and identify improvement strategies.

Qualification Requirements

Hold the minimum equivalent of a four-year baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S. or its equivalent from a foreign institution.

Also acceptable: hold a Master's degree, a doctoral degree (Ph.D., D.Phil.), or a professional degree (M.D., J.D., D.V.M., etc.) from a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S. or its equivalent from a foreign institution.

Have earned at least a 3.0 grade-point-average (on a 4 point scale) from a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S. or its equivalent from a foreign institution for the last 90 graded quarter credits or 60 graded semester credits from a baccalaureate degree (for a Master's, doctoral, or professional degree, the total cumulative average may be used). TOEFL iBT: 80, IELTS: 6.5
