This doctoral program in Environmental and Occupational Hygiene prepares scientists and professionals to identify, assess, and mitigate workplace and environmental exposures that could lead to illness or injury. Doctoral candidates collaborate with faculty to investigate diverse health issues and develop solutions to minimize or remove hazards in occupational and community settings. The program curriculum encompasses biostatistics, epidemiology, exposure science, and risk assessment fundamentals. Specialized courses cover pollution chemistry and exposure measurement techniques. Research areas span biological, chemical, and physical hazard evaluation, respiratory/reproductive/chronic disease studies, cancer epidemiology, bio-monitoring techniques, and health policy development. Graduates acquire thorough understanding of health and safety concepts, advanced technical competencies, and hands-on experience.
Hold the minimum equivalent of a four-year baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S. or its equivalent from an accredited foreign institution or a Bologna bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 180 European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits.
The UW Graduate School requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 for the last two years (90 credits) of study.
English Proficiency:
The Graduate School is temporarily accepting official test scores for both the Duolingo English Test and the TOEFL ITP Plus For China to assist international students with remote testing options. This policy is currently in effect through the autumn 2021 admission cycle (i.e., students enrolling in autumn 2021).
