The Statistical Genetics pathway curriculum forms an essential component of the core PhD program in Biostatistics, featuring specialized coursework in this dynamic research field. In Fall 2000, the University of Washington's Biostatistics and Statistics Departments, in collaboration with faculty from Genetics, Zoology, Medicine, and Molecular Biotechnology, launched an innovative graduate program in Statistical Genetics. This curriculum is designed to function as a fundamental element of the core requirements for PhD candidates in both Biostatistics and Statistics who pursue the Statistical Genetics specialization within these programs.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants to the MS and PhD program should have a bachelor's degree or higher. Most students enter with a major in mathematics, statistics, or a biological sciences field, however, we also accept applicants with backgrounds in other fields if the necessary math and statistics prerequisites below are fulfilled. We often have applicants from engineering, psychology, or financial/business backgrounds. Strong applicants will have solid quantitative skills as evidenced by their coursework and GRE quantitative score. TOEFL iBT: 80, IELTS: 6.5.
