Enrollment in UW's NELC Arabic and Islamic Studies Program has reached unprecedented levels. Our curriculum fosters a comprehensive grasp of the Islamic world by exploring Arabic language and diverse Islamic cultures. Language instruction enables students to achieve advanced competency in both conversational and written Arabic. Tailored for undergraduates and Master's candidates, the program cultivates skills in interpreting literary, religious, legal, and historical texts spanning all eras and Arabic-speaking regions. We accommodate learners with varied academic and career objectives through instruction that combines five core language competencies: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and cultural understanding. NELC provides an extensive curriculum encompassing language, literature, linguistics, teaching methods, and cultural studies. Furthermore, NELC supplements Arabic language acquisition through multiple international study opportunities.
