Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Eastern European Languages, Literature, and Culture complete two years of language instruction in Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin, Serbian, Polish, Slovene, or Ukrainian. They then expand on this language foundation by examining Eastern European cultures through literature, film, cultural studies, and other disciplines. This immersive program emphasizes close mentorship with distinguished faculty and practical learning experiences, enabling students to gain profound understanding of Central and Eastern European worldviews.
In addition to the curriculum, students leverage the department's strong connections with the Ellison Center for Russian, East European and Central Asian Studies at the Jackson School of International Studies, as well as regional Slavic communities.
