The Criminal Justice program delivers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary study of crime and justice systems within societal contexts. Rather than focusing on a single specialized area, it examines all key components of the justice system through an ecological perspective. Students gain both theoretical knowledge of the field and practical understanding of scientific methodologies in criminal justice. This curriculum enables learners to assess wider dimensions of the justice system while cultivating analytical and theoretical competencies. UW Tacoma's distinctive Criminal Justice program highlights social justice principles, diversity awareness, community collaboration, systemic perspectives, and practical skill-building. The program raises awareness about crime's human consequences, particularly how effects vary across different social groups and communities. It employs a social justice framework that prioritizes harm reduction alongside rehabilitative and restorative justice approaches.
