American & Ethnic Studies explores the societal influences, governmental structures, and artistic expressions that have formed the United States and defined American identity. This program fosters analytical thinking about the frameworks that have influenced power structures tied to national belonging. Special focus is given to intersecting identities including race, location, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, citizenship, and disability. Our curriculum explores the connections between authority, disparity, activism, equity in society and ecology, and diversity. Through multiple academic approaches, American & Ethnic Studies bridges historical contexts with contemporary realities. We train students in historical research, textual evaluation, and the application of critical theories.
