The Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Clinical Nurse Specialist (AGCNS) is an advanced practice nurse trained to care for adult patients in intensive, critical, and specialized medical settings. UVA's curriculum focuses on developing comprehensive theoretical understanding, practical expertise, and technical abilities required to treat adult and elderly patients throughout their hospital stay and subsequent recovery. AGCNS candidates cultivate superior assessment capabilities and clinical judgment, learn effective methods for interdisciplinary communication and teamwork, and gain proficiency in tracking and improving patient outcomes. The program strongly emphasizes research-driven care, quality enhancement via organizational leadership, education, and clinical investigation. It equips future advanced practice nurses to deliver specialized care to adults with both sudden and persistent health conditions.
