The Computer Engineering (CpE) Program provides a Master of Engineering (M.E.) degree focused solely on coursework. Candidates should review the School of Engineering and Applied Science's Academic Rules in the Record for institution-level degree prerequisites that supplement these CpE Graduate Program specifications.
Earning an M.E. degree in Computer Engineering demands completion of 30 credit hours of graded coursework. Refer to the Curriculum Distribution Requirements section below for detailed credit distribution guidelines.

Beyond coursework, M.E. candidates must submit evaluation forms demonstrating proficiency in Oral Communications, Technical Writing, and Engineering Analysis before degree conferral.

Qualification Requirements

The Computer Engineering Program (CpE) offers admission to two Graduate degrees, a research oriented Doctoral Degree (PhD) and an industry oriented Masters of Engineering (ME) Degree. (Note: Students who are interested in Research and have completed a Bachelor of Science degree are encouraged to apply directly to the PhD Program. A Master of Science Degree may be earned on the way to the PhD Degree.) Students in the PhD program are generally supported with a teaching or research assistantship. Students in the ME program pay tuition while taking courses. The submission of GRE scores is optional. All students whose first language is not English are also required to submit TOEFL or IELTs scores. However, TOEFL/IELTS is not required if the applicant has received a 4-year degree at an English-speaking institution (whether or not the institution is in the U.S.). If the applicant has a 4-year degree from a non-English-speaking institution and a Master's degree from an English-speaking institution, TOEFL/IELTS is still required. Most students admitted score at least 24 on all areas of the TOEFL, or a minimum of 7.0 on the IELTS in each area. Although we do not require applicants to have a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science, we do expect all applicants to have a strong background in both computing and electronic systems.

GRADUATE RECORDS EXAM (GRE) are an optional credential and as an applicant you may decide if you want to submit your scores as part of your application. Should you choose to submit your scores, please send to institution code 5820. Please note, applicants who choose to include self-reported scores at the time of application are required to submit official GRE scores upon matriculation.

The minimum internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score requirement is 90 (including sectional minimums of 22 in speaking, 22 in writing, 23 in reading and 23 in listening). The minimum paper-based TOEFL score requirement is 600. Applicants may submit scores from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) as an alternative to the TOEFL exam. The minimum IELTS score requirement is 7.0 in each section
