The M.E. program can be finished solely through coursework. Participants must complete five core graduate classes covering essential chemical engineering principles. These foundational courses account for 15 credits, representing half of the 30-credit minimum needed for the Master's degree. The M.E. curriculum also includes three to five elective graduate courses, with the exact number varying based on whether a student opts for a graded research credit course (up to 6 credits maximum).

Applicants must have earned a undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution, or an equivalent degree from a non-U.S. institution.

GRE Scores: The Department of Chemical Engineering no longer receives or reviews GRE scores.

The minimum internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score requirement is 90 (including sectional minimums of 22 in speaking, 22 in writing, 23 in reading and 23 in listening). The minimum paper-based TOEFL score requirement is 600. Applicants may submit scores from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) as an alternative to the TOEFL exam. The minimum IELTS score requirement is 7.0 in each section
