We aim to cultivate a new wave of socially conscious school counseling leaders who challenge systemic inequities. Our mission focuses on preparing culturally aware counselors equipped to lead, advocate, and transform oppressive systems while supporting preK-12 students' mental health, academic growth, and future aspirations.

The CACREP-accredited M.Ed. in Counselor Education program develops professionals for school counseling roles across public and private institutions, guided by our distinguished faculty.
This program empowers you to emerge as a leader, advocate, partner, and reformer with a strong commitment to fostering fairness, opportunity, and justice in K-12 education.
Collaborative learning is woven throughout the curriculum, allowing you to work closely with peers in an encouraging community. Charlottesville's diverse student population offers rich internship experiences across urban, suburban, and rural educational settings.
Addressing the rising mental health demands in K-12 education, UVA's Counselor Education program proudly introduces its School Mental Health Leadership (SMHL) Track.'For complete SMHL track details, see the Program Overview section (select students in this track may qualify for grant support).

The M.Ed. in Counselor Education program strives to develop:
