The University of Virginia's Darden School of Business and Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy provide a combined MBA/MPP degree program. Prospective students must gain separate admission to both schools through their standard application procedures to enroll in this dual degree. Completing the program requires three academic years (six semesters), consisting of each school's first-year curriculum followed by a final year combining courses from both programs. Students may also select relevant graduate-level classes from other University departments as part of their MBA/MPP studies.

Qualification Requirements
A student who wishes to be admitted into the dual degree program must apply to each school separately and be admitted to both the Darden School and the Batten School through the normal admissions processes of each school. The fact that the student is a candidate for the dual program is not considered at this stage.
Students who have been admitted to both schools and who wish to undertake the dual program should notify the registrar of each school and apply to the faculty advisors for permission to do so. Admission requires approval of both the Darden and Batten faculty advisors.
Application to one school may be made either prior to entrance to or while a first year student at the other. No students will be admitted to the dual program after completing the first year at either Darden or Batten.
All supplemental materials (e.g. unofficial transcripts and recommendations) must be submitted by the date of the official deadline. Your application may be completed online and submitted electronically once you have answered all the required questions. You do not have to complete the online application in one sitting you may access your application and change your answers as many times as you like. To do that, use the Username and Password that you created when you first completed the Interest Page and/or started your application.
Two Recommendations
Recommendations for the MPP will be submitted using a form evaluating your candidacy along a set of criteria addressing your potential for success in the program. If your recommender has prepared a traditional letter of recommendation, they will have the option to include it. There will be more instructions regarding letters of recommendation within the application itself.
Unofficial Transcripts
If you are an international applicant whose primary language is not English, you are also required to take the TOEFL examination. TOEFL scores must be sent to the Frank Batten School of Leadership & Public Policy code B582. You may also submit the IELTS in lieu of the TOEFL scores. IELTS scores must be sent to the Frank Batten School of Leadership & Public Policy. Competitive applicants receive a 100 on the TOEFL (with a minimum of 22 in each section) or a 7 on the IELTS.
