Few areas in society have as extensive a reach as schools, touching millions of lives directly. However, this broad influence doesn't automatically lead to meaningful change, given the significant challenges educational institutions worldwide encounter. Darden's MBA/M.Ed program tackles these issues by equipping future leaders in both business and education with the necessary skills.
In collaboration, the UVA School of Education and Human Development and the Darden School of Business provide an MBA/M.Ed degree tailored to develop innovative, ethical, and action-oriented leaders—individuals who will drive educational advancements globally. Graduates of this dual-degree program merge specialized knowledge in education with comprehensive training in management, operations, and strategy. They apply this unique expertise to enhance educational outcomes, influence policy reforms, oversee school administration, launch education-focused startups, and pursue other impactful initiatives.
The program spans two years, incorporating summer classes, a mix of in-person and online coursework at Darden, and practical internships. Students commence their studies at the School of Education and Human Development during the summer before Darden's MBA program begins, though a fall start is also possible. Participants join a dedicated MBA/M.Ed cohort, working together on coursework, collaborative projects, and engaging with industry leaders through events like the Emerging Trends in Education speaker series.
Currently, numerous UVA MBA/M.Ed alumni hold influential positions where business and education intersect. Their careers encompass educational administration, consulting, entrepreneurship, edtech, instructional design, and organizational leadership. For instance, recent graduates have made an impact through roles at:
School networks and charter organizations like UP Education and YES Prep Public Schools
Consulting firms in both public and private sectors, including Bain & Company, Bellwether Education Partners, Accenture, EY-Parthenon, and the Boston Consulting Group
Leading education and technology companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Thinkful, and MURAL
