The Master of Architectural History program at UVA operates within the nation's oldest architectural history department, training students in the skills of architectural historical research.
Students in this program develop expertise in investigating, recording, analyzing, and contextualizing built environments, construction techniques, design documents, and scholarly writings, along with the theoretical approaches that shape historical narratives within broader social and political contexts. Our World Heritage Lab integrates scientific and academic investigation in preservation work at UVA's UNESCO-recognized sites, including the University grounds and Monticello. The program provides multiple specialization paths, allowing graduate students to pursue their research passions while collaborating with our distinguished faculty. Alumni of UVA's MArH program pursue diverse careers as public historians, preservation specialists, critics, curators at major cultural organizations, and academic scholars.
