The School of Law provides a joint program with the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, enabling students to earn both J.D. and MBA degrees in four years rather than the typical five years needed for separate completion.
This accelerated program spans four years. It includes the full first-year curriculum from both institutions, followed by two years of combined coursework drawn from both schools' offerings and, when suitable, other graduate programs at the University. Admitted students can choose to begin their studies at either the School of Law or Darden School, but must complete their entire first year at one institution. The School of Law's first-year requirements must be fulfilled by the second year, while Darden's first-year curriculum must be completed by the third year. During non-first-year periods, students work through the remaining mandatory and elective courses from both schools. Upon successfully completing the program with at least 70 credits and six residency semesters in Law and 52.5 credits in Business, graduates receive both degrees simultaneously.
