The Youth and Social Innovation major prepares undergraduate students dedicated to positively impacting young lives. Alumni have secured careers and advanced degrees in diverse fields including: Education and Youth Development (teaching, higher education administration, sports programs), Human Services (therapy, social services, mental health professions, healthcare), Public Policy, Advocacy & Law (youth-focused legislation), and Business, Management & Communications (innovative education ventures, edtech). Social justice stands as a fundamental principle of the Youth and Social Innovation program. YSI instructors champion human dignity while critically examining systemic oppression including racial injustice, gender discrimination, anti-LGBTQ+ bias, disability prejudice, and religious bigotry. During your YSI studies, you'll encounter course materials and conversations addressing these issues. We value your meaningful engagement in our classrooms, across the School of Education and Human Development, and throughout the University of Virginia community.
