University students from all disciplines are invited to discover the opportunities within Media Studies during their undergraduate journey. Those aiming to specialize in creative production, legal fields, business, policy-making, advanced research, or digital technology development should consider media studies as a foundation for pursuing master's or doctoral degrees. Career prospects for graduates span radio, television, publishing, digital platforms, and both traditional and emerging media industries. The Media Studies Department provides a Bachelor of Arts major, a Distinguished Majors Program (DMP), plus optional specializations in film studies or media policy and ethics. Both the BA major and DMP require formal applications.
Digital media forms a core focus of the department, examining its historical context, theoretical frameworks, technological evolution, and modern societal influence. Curriculum areas encompass: artistic expression and structure, personal interpretation, media history, ethical considerations in policy, media's role in shaping public discourse, and legal intersections with media. Students are encouraged to tailor their MDST coursework to align with personal academic goals. A comprehensive media studies education should address: artistic dimensions (rhetorical strategies, analytical frameworks, critical evaluation, and medium-specific theories), historical developments (film, photography, television, digital, and print media), psychological and sociological perspectives, societal impacts (political systems, legal structures, policy formation, ethical debates, cultural studies), and media economics and business practices.
