The MSW/JD Program enables students to specialize in both social work and legal studies. Participants in this dual-degree initiative can apply up to 12 law school credits toward their 60-credit MSW requirements, while also counting 12 social work credits toward the 88-credit JD program. This accelerated path allows completion in four years rather than the five needed for separate degrees. Graduates receive distinct JD and MSW degrees from their respective colleges, with both diplomas awarded simultaneously regardless of when individual program requirements are fulfilled.

Qualification Requirements
A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university is required for admission into all graduate programs at the University of Utah. Only the Advanced Standing MSW Program requires a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree (earned within seven years of applying to the program).
A 3.0 cumulative GPA is required, though lower GPAs may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Any applicant with below a 3.0 cumulative GPA is advised to meet with an academic advisor prior to applying.
