The Developmental Psychology program focuses on studying how social and interpersonal processes evolve in real-life settings, spanning from prenatal stages to late adulthood. Our researchers explore how cognition, emotions, and biological-behavioral systems transform across different life stages within everyday environments such as family dynamics, educational settings, and personal relationships. Faculty investigate various topics, including the role of mental frameworks in decision-making, dispute mediation, and ethical judgment; how storytelling in dialogue shapes personal growth; strategies for managing long-term health challenges within social contexts; the formation of sexual identity and expression; and how early life experiences biologically embed themselves, influencing lasting changes in epigenetic markers and other physiological mechanisms tied to both physical and mental growth.
