The American Kinesiology Association (AKA) describes Kinesiology as: an academic field focused on examining physical activity and its effects on well-being, society, and life quality. At its core, kinesiology explores the mechanics of human motion. Researchers in this discipline conduct studies to enhance physical performance, health outcomes, and overall wellness across diverse populations. As a University of Utah kinesiology student, you'll analyze bodily movement and exercise physiology, equipping you with knowledge to reduce injury risks and combat long-term illnesses. The curriculum provides three specialization options: Exercise Science, Fitness and Wellness Specialist, or Kinesiology Teaching, enabling students to tailor their education to personal aspirations. All students gain foundational kinesiology knowledge and opportunities to apply learning through community engagement or research initiatives. Since the Kinesiology BS and Exercise Science BS aren't career-specific programs, most Health and Wellness Specialist track graduates pursue advanced degrees.
