The Environmental and Sustainability Studies (ENVST) program is a STEM-based interdisciplinary field providing both a major with specialized tracks and a minor option. This curriculum examines ecosystems and human-environment relationships through lenses of natural sciences, social sciences, health sciences, and humanities. The University's initiative aims to cultivate awareness of complex environmental challenges while developing solutions through systems thinking, collaborative education, civic involvement, ethical leadership, and scientifically grounded approaches to integrated problem-solving.
Career Pathways
ENVST equips students for diverse professional paths including government roles (like positions with the Bureau of Land Management or as Watershed Specialists), corporate careers (such as environmental advising or sustainability leadership), education, urban development, agriculture, nonprofit sector (including program administration), and advocacy work (such as environmental policy lobbying). Alumni have pursued careers as policy analysts, consulting professionals, plant scientists, renewable energy specialists, and environmental reporters. For those considering advanced degrees, potential graduate programs span environmental sciences, business management, public health, urban design, and legal studies.
