Chemistry explores the composition, transformations, and creation of new substances from matter. It plays a pivotal role in our quest for understanding as we investigate the world around us. The department provides nine specialized tracks, and it stands as the sole department at the U that permits students to select two areas of focus.
Career Paths
Graduates of the U's chemistry program can access a variety of employment prospects. You might work as a chemist in corporate, governmental, or academic settings; seek advanced training in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, or other health professions; or enter fields like environmental science and engineering, forensics, business, and law. Some alumni have found roles as educators, software developers, and chemical engineers. Pursuing further education can lead to careers in academia, including positions as professors, researchers, and administrators.
