The Communication Systems, Control and Signal Processing research group explores diverse subjects including data compression, image processing, satellite communications, sensor array processing, and hardware development for real-time digital receivers and passive radar systems. In data compression and image processing, efforts concentrate on creating optimized video compression algorithms, multimedia bitstream packetization methods, and neural network-driven image improvement techniques. Researchers have pioneered advanced compression approaches such as rapid vector quantization, wavelet-based subband coding, optimal embedded bitstream packetization, and video motion estimation. Current initiatives also include enhancing and compressing biomedical signals like electrocardiogram (ECG) data. Communication systems research encompasses modeling, simulation, and performance evaluation of communication networks, mobile/satellite system structures, and network/payload design. Additional work covers tactical communication networks, digital broadcasting technologies, turbo coding, LDPC codes, and their practical implementations. The signal processing division emphasizes real-time execution of sensor array algorithms using FPGA and cell processor technologies.
