Faculty members in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders graduate program are continuously advancing our understanding through research on neurotransmission, sensory systems, nervous system development and plasticity, neurological disease mechanisms, and peripheral organ regulation. As one of four biomedical science programs at UT College of Medicine, this interdisciplinary program prepares students to become innovative, self-sufficient research scientists. Students can pursue Ph.D. or M.S. degrees, with options for combined M.D./Ph.D. or M.D./M.S.B.S. programs. The program features renowned, grant-supported faculty mentors from multiple departments including Neurosciences, Neurology, Physiology and Pharmacology, and Psychiatry. Students have access to cutting-edge laboratories and core facilities across these participating departments.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must hold an earned 4 year baccalaureate degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university, and have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Typically, applicants will have an undergraduate major in Biology or a related discipline such as Biochemistry or Biophysics. Students with other majors such as Chemistry or Physics are encouraged to apply, but their coursework should include several semesters in biology.
