The Master of Education in Secondary Education program is tailored for individuals with a bachelor's degree seeking to obtain an initial Ohio teaching credential while pursuing graduate studies. This pathway allows students to simultaneously earn a master's degree and an Ohio teaching license for grades 7-12 in a specific subject area or PreK-12 for world languages. Available subject areas encompass: English language arts, mathematics, chemistry, Earth and space science, life science, physics, integrated science, or social studies. World language choices include: Chinese, French, German, or Spanish.
This 30-semester-hour ME program requires additional coursework for licensure. Participants engage in curriculum and instruction classes alongside specialized education courses chosen in consultation with faculty advisors, aligned with their desired teaching specialization. The program concludes with advanced theory and research coursework, culminating in either a master's research seminar, research project, or thesis, depending on student preference. Instruction is delivered through a blend of on-campus, online, and field-based learning experiences.
