Qualification Requirements

Admission for the Ph.D. program in Engineering with a concentration in Industrial Engineering requires the M.S. in Industrial Engineering or another engineering field provided the student shows evidence of an appropriate engineering background at the undergraduate level, including a minimum of two years of calculus through differential equations and one year of physics. Highly qualified B.S. engineering graduates can be admitted directly into the Ph.D. program. The graduate programs are open to all qualified individuals with a bachelor of science (B.S.)/master of science (M.S.) in engineering. Applicants should have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 in previous undergraduate work and at least 3.3 in previous graduate work. Students with a degree in another field may be eligible for admission, provided they meet the minimum background requirement, which includes two years of calculus through differential equations and one year of engineering physics. In some cases, other prerequisite courses may be required. Course credits for meeting undergraduate prerequisites are not applied toward the graduate degree.
