Welcome to the Medical Microbiology and Immunology (MMI) program (previously called the Infection, Immunity & Transplantation (IIT) track at The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences, located on the Health Science Campus.

The MMI program is a component of the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Research Program. It prepares graduate students for professional roles in studying microorganisms affecting human health and the immune system's ability to combat infections and reject transplanted organs and tissues. Students in MMI can work toward a Master of Science (M.S.), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), or—upon medical school admission—a combined M.D./Ph.D. or M.D./M.S. degree.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must hold an earned 4 year baccalaureate degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university, and have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Typically, applicants will have an undergraduate major in Biology or a related discipline such as Biochemistry or Biophysics. Students with other majors such as Chemistry or Physics are encouraged to apply, but their coursework should include several semesters in biology.

A Master's degree is not required to apply to a PhD program.
