This interdisciplinary program provides avenues for in-depth biological exploration and research, enabling students to expand their academic horizons at the graduate level.
The Biology Master of Science program features both thesis and non-thesis pathways to accommodate diverse graduate aspirations. Each student's curriculum is customized based on their academic interests through collaboration with their graduate advisor. Faculty research specialties span biochemistry, cell biology, developmental biology, genetics, microbiology, neuroscience, physiology, and botanical sciences.
The Integrative Biology Department grants Master of Science degrees in both Biology and Environmental Science. It also provides graduate certificates in Environmental Science and Environmental Sustainability. Additionally, the department collaborates with the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Construction Management to offer a joint PhD program in Environmental Science and Engineering.
The Ecology specialization is a thesis-based degree that equips students with expertise in investigating ecological systems. Beyond coursework, students collaborate with faculty to conduct thorough research projects culminating in thesis work suitable for publication in respected academic journals. Graduates develop skills in analytical reasoning, research techniques (including experimental design, data collection, and statistical analysis), and effective scientific communication. This specialization readies students for doctoral studies and professional careers across academic institutions, government agencies, and private sector organizations.
