This doctoral program equips students to tackle growing challenges in education and research spanning demography, public policy, education administration, public health, and healthcare systems. Candidates pursue in-depth study and original research in Applied Demography, exploring its applications across diverse fields including policy administration, urban planning, biomedical sciences, commercial enterprises, and social sciences. The program facilitates cross-disciplinary collaboration, allowing students to enroll in courses or work with faculty from UT Health San Antonio and UT School of Public Health's San Antonio campus.
Our Department provides three graduate degrees: an M.S. in Sociology, an M.S. in Applied Demography, and a Ph.D. in Applied Demography. The Ph.D. curriculum emphasizes using demographic methods to solve real-world policy challenges in government and industry. Faculty research concentrates on two primary domains: Healthcare Disparities and Population Mobility patterns.
