UTSA's Neuroscience program enables students to investigate brain function and disorders through diverse fields like neurobiology, psychology, and computational sciences. The program provides comprehensive neuroscience education, examining brain operations from molecular processes to cellular interactions, system networks, and behavioral patterns. A bachelor's degree in Neuroscience serves as excellent preparation for advanced studies in medicine or dentistry, along with various career paths in biotechnology, healthcare, education, and AI development. The curriculum integrates multiple disciplines including biology, psychology, and statistical analysis, focusing on nervous system research through brain-centered science. This program emphasizes uncovering the neurological foundations of perception, behavior, and disorders.
Internship opportunities help students gain professional experience, test potential career directions, and enhance their employability. Through Handshake, UTSA's employment platform, students can browse job postings, internship openings, and recruitment events. The university's Career Center features a dedicated College of Sciences counselor who offers internship resources and guidance for all science majors.
Within the Neuroscience bachelor's program, the Department of Neuroscience, Developmental and Regenerative Biology provides three specialized tracks. Students should meet with an academic advisor in the Life and Health Sciences Advising Center to select a concentration or receive guidance. To earn concentration recognition, candidates must fulfill all standard B.S. degree requirements plus additional coursework for their chosen specialization. Those who don't complete all concentration requirements will graduate with a general Neuroscience degree instead.
