At UTSA, students can pursue a Computer Science degree with specialized focus areas including Cloud and Systems, Cyber Security, Data Science, Software Engineering, or the unique Cyber Operations pathway. These concentrations are selected after admission through consultation with an academic advisor.
Internship programs enable students to gain practical experience, test potential career paths, and enhance employability. Through Handshake, UTSA's career platform, students can explore job openings, internships, and recruitment events. The university's Career Center features dedicated STEM career advisors offering internship resources and guidance for all science majors.
The Computer Science Department conducts pioneering research across key domains: cybersecurity, data analytics, virtual reality, and networked systems. Faculty expertise spans artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, cloud computing, bioinformatics, IoT, and more. The department maintains specialized classrooms, an instructional lab, 20 research facilities, and two major research centers: CIAS and ICS. Faculty collaborate with UTSA's Data Science School, National Security Center, and AI research initiatives.
