At UTSA, you can earn a Computer Science degree with optional concentrations in Cloud and Systems, Cyber Security, Data Science, Software Engineering, or the highly specialized Cyber Operations track. Concentrations and tracks are declared after youve been admitted and have met with your academic advisor.
Internships allow you to obtain work experience, explore a chosen career path and increase your marketability to employers. Students can access Handshake, UTSA's jobs portal, to search for jobs and internships and recruiting and event information. UTSA's Career Center has a COS career counselor who provides internship opportunities and advice to students across every science major.
The Department of Computer Science is engaged in cutting-edge research in cross-cutting research thrust areas of cybersecurity, data-driven intelligence and virtual reality systems, and networked and software systems, with expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, software engineering, cloud computing, cybersecurity, bioinformatics, Internet-of-things, embedded systems, parallel, distributed, and high-performance computing, and computer graphics and virtual and augmented reality. The Department of Computer Science operates dedicated classrooms, a large instructional lab, 20 research labs, and two main research units: the Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security (CIAS) and the Institute for Cyber Security (ICS). Its faculty members are also affiliated with UTSA's School of Data Science, National Security Collaboration Center, and AI Matrix Consortium.
Cyber operations covers the entire scope of cyberspace and related operations, both technical and non-technical. As such, the Cyber Operations Track at UTSA provides a basic foundation programming languages, software reverse engineering, operating system theory, networking, cellular and mobile technologies, discrete math and algorithms, overview of cyber defense, security fundamental principles, vulnerabilities, legal and ethics, virtualization, cloud security, risk management and information systems, computer architecture, software security analysis, secure software development, digital forensics, systems programming, applied cryptography, user experience security, and offensive cyber operations.

Qualification Requirements

Test Scores - SAT/ACT scores are optional for admission consideration. Students who have taken the SAT or ACT are encouraged to submit their scores directly from the testing agency.
Essay - If you are to be considered for admission through holistic review, submission of essay A on ApplyTexas or any open prompt on Common App is highly encouraged.
Letters of Recommendation - If you are to be considered for admission through holistic review, two letters of recommendations are highly encouraged.
