The Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) Certification program serves as an educational pathway to prepare future mental health professionals from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) for delivering top-tier, evidence-backed Integrated Behavioral Health services across the Rio Grande Valley. Supporting UTRGV's mission to foster comprehensive wellness through health initiatives, medical education, and research, this program trains students across four mental health fields: Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, and Social Work. Participants gain foundational and advanced knowledge in the evidence-based PCBH model while collaborating with healthcare trainees and providers during clinical rotations as Behavioral Health Consultants in primary care settings throughout the region. The curriculum emphasizes core competencies for Behavioral Health Consultants, covering Clinical Practice, Practice Management, Consultation, Documentation, Team Performance, and Administrative Skills. Instruction combines in-person classes, simulated scenarios, Mixed-Reality Simulation technology, and virtual learning platforms for comprehensive training.
