UTEP's Master of Social Work program equips students for higher-level social work practice and leadership roles. The curriculum focuses on Social Work in the Border Region, training students to tackle diverse social and health challenges affecting families and communities throughout the Paso del Norte area and other regions. Graduates meet the qualifications to take the national LMSW examination. The Advanced Standing option is exclusively for those with a BSW degree, as the Council on Social Work Education recognizes the first two years of BSW study as equivalent to the MSW program's foundational year. Advanced Standing students begin with the second-year concentration courses, needing only 30 credits instead of the standard 60 required for full-time or part-time programs.
