Qualification Requirements

If you did not attend high school in the United States and your most recent institution of learning was not located in an English-speaking country, UTEP requires you to provide evidence of English-language proficiency. Minimum score 550 on the paper-based (pBT) TOEFL. Some programs require 600 or better. Minimum score of 79 on the internet-based test (iBT), and minimum of 6.5 on IELTS.

Completed application (available online) for the Graduate School.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the U.S. or proof of equivalent education at a foreign institution in Political Science, or a related area. Transcripts are required from the bachelor's degree and any other graduate or professional degree programs, including law school.
Two letters of recommendation, preferably from former professors in either the bachelor's degree program or previous graduate programs.
A statement of purpose outlining one's interest in the program and career objectives. If the applicant's undergraduate GPA is below 3.0, any extenuating circumstances must be explained.
The following applicants to the MA in Political Science program are not required to submit GRE scores:
Applicants holding a UTEP degree in political science or related fields, obtained in the last six years
Applicants currently enrolled in a UTEP undergraduate program that participates in the MA Political Science Fast Track program
Applicants from countries where English is not the first language are required to demonstrate English proficiency.
