The curriculum highlights cross-border and interagency approaches to safeguarding critical infrastructure, transportation systems, immigration processes, and related areas. Participants must complete 15 credit hours of core coursework. All UTEP graduate students maintaining satisfactory academic progress may enroll in the Graduate Certificate in Intelligence and National Security Studies program.

Qualification Requirements
The Graduate Certificate in Intelligence and National Security is designed for working and mid-career professionals who already hold a baccalaureate or graduate degree and are interested in further professional education. Applicants must complete the graduate school application and provide an official transcript. Students can be classified as non-degree-seeking students or have the certificate program incorporated into the degree requirements appropriate to their department and after meeting all program requirements for admission. Students who complete the Graduate Certificate in Intelligence and National Security and decide to pursue a graduate degree at a later date can apply to the appropriate graduate program and request that the units become part of their program upon admission.
If you did not attend high school in the United States and your most recent institution of learning was not located in an English-speaking country, UTEP requires you to provide evidence of English-language proficiency. Minimum score 550 on the paper-based (pBT) TOEFL. Some programs require 600 or better. Minimum score of 79 on the internet-based test (iBT), and minimum of 6.5 on IELTS.
