At The University of Texas at El Paso, students can pursue both Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Computational Science (CPS). This cross-disciplinary initiative merges computer science, mathematics, and various scientific and engineering fields from multiple departments within the Colleges of Science, Engineering, and Health Sciences, creating a comprehensive foundation for solving intricate systems where computing is essential. CPS candidates develop a holistic grasp of approaches including mathematical modeling, algorithm development, computer simulations, data visualization, large-scale data analysis, and parallel/distributed high-performance computing.

Qualification Requirements

Bachelors or master's degree in any field of mathematics, science, or engineering from an accredited institution in the United States, or proof of equivalent education in a foreign institution,
Demonstration of academic achievement and potential as indicated by the results of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and upper-level undergraduate and/or graduate coursework,
Applicants from countries where English is not the first language are required to demonstrate English proficiency.
A statement of academic and professional interests and goals from the applicant, and
Three letters of recommendation from people knowledgeable of the field.

If you did not attend high school in the United States and your most recent institution of learning was not located in an English-speaking country, UTEP requires you to provide evidence of English-language proficiency. Minimum score 550 on the paper-based (pBT) TOEFL. Some programs require 600 or better. Minimum score of 79 on the internet-based test (iBT), and minimum of 6.5 on IELTS.
