The Computational Science Ph.D. program equips students with the chance to pursue interdisciplinary research spanning computer science, mathematics, and engineering while enrolling in courses across Science, Engineering, and Health Sciences colleges. This flexible structure enables them to focus on research domains that directly support their professional aspirations. Program alumni gain expertise in methodologies like mathematical modeling and scientific visualization. At The University of Texas at El Paso, students can pursue both Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Computational Science (CPS). This cross-disciplinary initiative merges computer science, mathematics, and various scientific and engineering fields from multiple departments within the Colleges of Science, Engineering, and Health Sciences, creating a comprehensive foundation for solving intricate systems where computing is essential. CPS candidates develop a holistic grasp of approaches including mathematical modeling, algorithm development, computer simulations, data visualization, large-scale data analysis, and parallel/distributed high-performance computing.

If you did not attend high school in the United States and your most recent institution of learning was not located in an English-speaking country, UTEP requires you to provide evidence of English-language proficiency. Minimum score 550 on the paper-based (pBT) TOEFL. Some programs require 600 or better. Minimum score of 79 on the internet-based test (iBT), and minimum of 6.5 on IELTS.
