The biosciences PhD program equips students to investigate critical biomedical and environmental issues affecting the El Paso-Ciudad Ju√°rez border region and the United States. This program focuses on studying disease mechanisms, environmental toxin impacts, neurological conditions, and ecosystem biology. Students can pursue two doctoral degrees: a PhD in Biological Sciences with a Bioscience concentration or a PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Situated in the 2-million-person border metropolis, the university addresses health and environmental concerns common to both developed and developing areas. Most departmental PhD research targets local biomedical and environmental challenges. We aim to train researchers capable of tackling regional and national priorities, particularly in: (1) infectious disease mechanisms, (2) environmental toxin effects, (3) neurological and metabolic conditions, and (4) environmental biology studies.
