The Bachelor of Music with Teacher Certification equips students to become educators in instrumental, vocal, guitar, and keyboard instruction for both public and private schools. This program also offers opportunities to engage in musical performance, composition, or running a private studio. Graduates may further their education by pursuing advanced degrees in various music disciplines. Those completing the music performance degree gain specialized knowledge in musical performance, teaching methods, music history, theory, and business skills. Many alumni establish careers performing with professional ensembles, opera troupes, choral groups, and bands, while others pursue freelance opportunities or build private teaching practices. A significant number continue their studies with graduate programs in music performance or similar fields.
Students will cultivate the following abilities:
Entrepreneurship: Musical entrepreneurship involves self-promotion, developing online portfolios, and networking with clients through digital platforms.
Listening: Critical listening is fundamental for music performers, whether following a conductor's directions precisely or coordinating with ensemble members to align volume, tempo, and artistic interpretation.
Pedagogy: Graduates receive thorough training in teaching methodologies and frequently operate successful private music studios.
Interpersonal skills: Effective communication and relationship-building are vital for attracting audiences, collaborating with employers, and working harmoniously in both small ensembles and large musical organizations.
Collaboration: Music performers must adapt to different group dynamics, capable of assuming leadership roles or supporting section leaders as needed during performances.
