UTEP's political science program, situated along the U.S.-Mexico border, offers unique advantages for students aiming for careers in international relations across government agencies at all levels. Learners can expand their understanding through specialized tracks like Comparative Politics or American Political Behavior and Institutions. Whether pursuing a major or minor in Political Science, students gain exposure to contemporary issues, build expertise across disciplinary areas, refine analytical and communication abilities, and cultivate well-rounded civic perspectives. The department supports student success through exceptional teaching, dedicated mentorship, varied extracurricular programs, and research opportunities.

Many of our students are first-generation college attendees, and we're deeply committed to helping them earn their bachelor's degrees. Our graduates have continued their political science education at prestigious institutions like the University of New Mexico and UT Austin. Some have utilized UTEP's Law School Preparation Institute to gain entry into elite law programs, including those at Berkeley, Cornell, Harvard, Michigan, Stanford, UT Austin, Virginia, and Yale.
