UTEP's philosophy program prepares students for a career in academia, journalism, data analysis, government or NGO work. It also provides a successful path to law school. The Law School Admission Council reports that philosophy majors score higher on the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) than any other major. The course of study is designed to provide a curriculum for students that enhances critical thinking and logical analysis, as well as an introduction to the most important philosophical topics and traditions from the ancient to the contemporary world. Majoring in philosophy offers students the opportunity for self-exploration, while also applying philosophy to practical problems one will likely encounter after graduation. Students may choose to add philosophy as a major field, while also pursuing another major, i.e. double-majoring. Double-majoring in philosophy and another field of study will permit the student to develop a broad-based understanding of how to analyze and critically evaluate concepts that arise in the other major field of study.
