From introductory courses to degree completion, UTEP's painting program prioritizes mastering technical abilities to create artworks that hold personal significance, address societal issues, and demonstrate visual excellence. The curriculum begins with observational painting and color theory in the first year, progressively guiding students to combine their creative visions with digital tools that expand painting's possibilities. Students develop their distinctive artistic voice while exploring both traditional and modern approaches. The department features four spacious 900-square-foot studios with expansive north-facing windows, numerous easels, and color printing resources. Additionally, the Fox Fine Arts building contains a comprehensive woodshop, photography studio, and the Glass Gallery - an exhibition space specifically for student artwork.
