The Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering's graduate program has a global reputation for shaping students into pioneering leaders across engineering practice, research, and academia. We encourage ambitious, high-achieving students to apply for our M.S.E. and Ph.D. programs.
Today's intricate challenges at the intersection of urban development, water resources, and energy systems require engineers with both specialized expertise and broad perspectives. CAEE equips students with the foundational knowledge and collaborative skills necessary to develop groundbreaking solutions, advanced technologies, and sustainable infrastructure systems. Our approach combines innovative teaching methods with research spanning theoretical fundamentals to practical applications.
Graduate students benefit from access to numerous specialized research centers, fostering exploration within their chosen fields while being part of a vibrant academic community. Featuring cutting-edge facilities, our graduate program prepares engineers to become trailblazers across various sectors including industry, academia, government service, and more.
While we primarily seek applicants with engineering undergraduate degrees, we may consider outstanding candidates from other disciplines who demonstrate exceptional potential. These students may need to complete prerequisite undergraduate courses before commencing graduate studies, with specific requirements tailored to individual academic backgrounds.
Our department provides Master of Science in Engineering degrees in both Civil Engineering and Environmental/Water Resources Engineering, while the Ph.D. program focuses exclusively on Civil Engineering. Prospective Architectural Engineering graduate students should apply through our Civil Engineering program.
At the heart of our mission is cultivating tomorrow's transportation visionaries through personalized mentorship and innovative research. Our alumni network includes distinguished faculty at prestigious universities globally and influential professionals throughout the transportation sector. The CTR serves as a hub for diverse research initiatives supported by organizations like NSF, USDOT, NCHRP, and TxDOT, offering graduate students both intellectually stimulating projects and financial support through research assistantships. Undergraduate students pursuing Transportation Engineering careers typically major in Civil Engineering, while CAEE provides specialized graduate programs in this dynamic field.
