The Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering's graduate program has a global reputation for shaping students into pioneering leaders across engineering practice, research, and education. We encourage ambitious, high-achieving students to apply for our M.S.E. and Ph.D. programs.
Today's intricate challenges at the intersection of urban development, water resources, and energy systems require engineers with both specialized expertise and broad perspectives. CAEE equips students with the foundational knowledge and collaborative skills necessary to pioneer tomorrow's sustainable technologies and infrastructure solutions. Our approach combines rigorous fundamental research with practical applications through innovative teaching methods.
Graduate students benefit from access to numerous specialized research centers, fostering an environment of intellectual curiosity and academic support. Featuring cutting-edge laboratories and resources, our program prepares engineers to lead in diverse professional settings including industry, academia, and public service.
While we primarily seek applicants with engineering undergraduate degrees, we may consider outstanding candidates from other disciplines who demonstrate exceptional potential. These students may need to complete preparatory undergraduate coursework before commencing graduate studies, with specific requirements tailored to individual academic backgrounds.
Our department provides Master of Science in Engineering degrees in both Civil Engineering and Environmental/Water Resources Engineering. The Ph.D. program focuses exclusively on Civil Engineering. Prospective Architectural Engineering graduate students should apply through our Civil Engineering program.
Our curriculum and research initiatives strike an optimal balance between experimental, theoretical, computational, and practical geotechnical engineering applications. Designed for comprehensive professional preparation, the program emphasizes core geotechnical principles while offering cutting-edge research opportunities. Graduates leave fully prepared for successful careers in either professional practice or academic research within geotechnical engineering.
